Homeopathy for Teething
Teething is a normal part of development, but it can still be an exhausting and distressing time for both baby and parent. Irritability, disrupted sleep, drooling, swollen gums and red cheeks are commonly associated with this stage.
Within homeopathy, medicines are traditionally selected according to each baby's individual symptom picture. This guide outlines some homeopathic medicines and their traditional indications and uses in homeopathic practice in relation to teething.
Homeopathic Medicines Traditionally Used During Teething
Chamomilla: Babies who become extremely irritable, difficult to settle and want to be carried constantly. One cheek may appear red while the other remains pale, and the baby may seem unusually distressed.
Belladonna: Flushed cheeks, warmth, restlessness or heightened sensitivity. Some babies may appear unsettled and wake suddenly.
Pulsatilla: Babies who become clingy or weepy and seek extra comfort and reassurance. They may settle more easily when cuddled or taken into the fresh air.
Calcarea phosphorica: Slower teething, with babies who appear unsettled, frequently want to chew or have difficulty settling.
Calcarea carbonica: A particular constitutional picture that may include slower teething, perspiration around the head during sleep.
Homeopathic Blends
Teething Blend: A carefully formulated blend of homeopathic medicines traditionally selected in homeopathic practice in relation to common teething symptom presentations. Contains Chamomilla, Belladonna, Calcarea phosphorica and Calcarea carbonica.
Little Ones Tissue Salt Blend: A carefully formulated combination of Calc fluor, Calc phos, Mag phos and Silica, tissue salts traditionally selected within homeopathic practice for use during the early years of childhood.
When to Seek Medical Advice
Teething can cause changes in behaviour and comfort, but symptoms should not automatically be assumed to be due to teething. Seek medical advice if your baby appears unwell, has a fever, is not feeding or drinking normally, has persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, is unusually drowsy, or if symptoms are severe, persistent or concerning.
