Homeopathy for muscles, tendons & ligament injuries
Musculoskeletal injuries are common, whether from sport, exercise or everyday activities. Within homeopathic practice, remedies are selected according to the individual's symptom presentation and the nature of the injury. Below are some of the homeopathic remedies traditionally used for different musculoskeletal injury patterns.
Arnica: Traditionally used within homeopathy following bumps, bruises, muscular strains and blunt trauma. Often considered one of the leading first-aid remedies in homeopathy and may be followed by a more individualised remedy depending on the type and location of the injury. Compare with Bellis for deeper soft tissue or abdominal trauma.
Ruta Graveolens: Traditionally used within homeopathy where there are injuries involving joints, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, periosteum, sprains or dislocations.
Rhus Tox: Traditionally used within homeopathy where joint or ligament discomfort is worse on first movement but improves with continued movement. Symptoms are often worse in cold conditions and relieved by warmth.
Hypericum: Traditionally used within homeopathy where injuries involve nerve-rich areas such as the fingers, toes or coccyx. Symptoms may include sharp, shooting or tingling sensations.
Bryonia: Traditionally used within homeopathy where discomfort is aggravated by movement and relieved by remaining still. Cold applications or pressure may also feel more comfortable. Commonly considered where joints, bursae or synovial tissues are involved.
Ledum: Traditionally used within homeopathy where bruising, puncture wounds or black eyes are present. The injured area may appear purple or feel cold, with symptoms that are more comfortable from cold applications.
Symphytum: Traditionally used within homeopathy following bone trauma or fractures once appropriate medical management has occurred. Also considered where the periosteum, cartilage or tendons are involved.
Hamamelis: Traditionally used within homeopathy where bruising persists.
Bellis: Traditionally used within homeopathy following bruising or trauma involving deeper soft tissues, particularly around the abdomen.
