Choosing A Homeopathic Cough Blend
During the winter months, coughs are a very common reason people seek homeopathic support, but because homeopathy is prescribed according to individual symptom presentation, it is important to analyse the following features of your cough when identifying which remedy or blend may be most closely matched:
Is the cough dry or wet?
Are you coughing up mucus? If so, what colour?
Is there a time of day when it is better or worse, such as worse at night or when lying down?
What sensation accompanies the cough? A tickle in the throat? A sensation in the chest?
Is the cough better or worse for cold air or warm air?
Is the cough better or worse for cold drinks or warm drinks?
These are just a few of the questions a homeopath may ask during an acute consultation if someone presents with a cough. Knowing the answers to these questions helps us to identify the remedy that most closely matches the individual symptom picture.
AMH Homeopathic Cough Blends:
Over time, through prescribing for both my own children and clients, I have found that coughs can present with a combination of different characteristics rather than fitting neatly into a single remedy picture. This is why I have put together a selection of homeopathic cough blends, each carefully formulated with traditionally selected remedies whose individual remedy pictures correspond with different features commonly seen in particular cough presentations.
Cough & Congestion Blend: For coughs occurring alongside nasal congestion, a blocked nose or sinus symptoms, particularly during a cold.
Dry Cough (Upper): A dry, tickling cough felt predominantly in the throat or upper airways. The tickling sensation may repeatedly trigger bouts of coughing.
Dry Cough (Lower): A dry cough with the sensation coming from deeper in the chest. There may be fits of coughing which can be quite exhausting.
Chesty Cough: A cough where mucus, phlegm or a congested feeling in the chest may be prominent.
SCCB (Sticky Chest Cough Blend): A particularly thick or sticky mucus picture, where there is a sensation of congestion but difficulty bringing the mucus up or clearing it.
Night Cough: A cough that may become noticeably worse at night or when lying down, whether the cough itself is dry or chesty.
